Why Startup Tech Companies Need a Team of Entrepreneurs
Thinking like an entrepreneur is an important quality for every team member of a startup tech company.
Entrepreneurs are visionaries, out to create something incredible and nurture it to maturity with passion and commitment. When people think of startup tech companies, they usually envision one or two entrepreneurs driving a vision with a pack of followers delivering the goods.
But Jana Kasperkevic of Inc. introduces how definitions of entrepreneurship have changed over the past several decades, and why everyone in the job market can be considered an entrepreneur.
Kasperkevic argues that the millennial generation is responsible for cultivating a new dynamic in employer-employee relationships. Rather than committing to a big, stable firm after college and working one’s way up a corporate ladder, employees now have no problem jumping from job to job if it means improving themselves as professionals.
The employer-employee relationship, she argues, has become more focused on value than loyalty. Employees are out to improve themselves, even if the job is only a temporary gig. Employers are out to improve the value of their company, if only through a temporary relationship. It may seem like a negative trend, since it leads to less stability, but there are certain benefits—especially for startup tech companies.
Think of what it means to be an entrepreneur:
- Thinking outside the box for new, creative ideas
- Having passion and enjoying the work you do
- Being committed to seeing an idea become successful
Aren’t these ideal qualities for any of your potential team members?
Consider this when you start to build your team. Start looking for individuals who not only have respectable experience in their field, but have the mind and passion of an entrepreneur. It might mean dealing with some opinionated personalities during team meetings—but that’s a good thing.
If you’re going to be successful, you’re going to have to look at things critically, from all different angles, and having a team of passionate, enthusiastic entrepreneur-minded people is the best way to do just that. Invest in your team and they will invest in you, bringing their best ideas and a dedication that rivals yours.
