Is It Too Late to Become a Startup Tech Company Entrepreneur?
Has your opportunity to become a startup tech entrepreneur passed?
If you read the news regularly, you likely hear about men and women in their 20s, fresh out of college, coming up with new tech ideas that have the potential to change the market forever. And while the CEOs of some of the top-performing tech companies in the world are decades older, the break-in point for new entrepreneurs seems to slant young.
If you’re in your 40s or older, you might feel intimidated about the idea of becoming an entrepreneur at this stage in your life. So is it possible that it’s too late for you?
The Role of Experience
I want to address my most important point right off the bat—experience plays a huge role in whether or not an entrepreneur will be successful. The overwhelming majority of first-time entrepreneurs end up failing in their first business. It’s only after repeated attempts and years of leadership and management experience that someone can be successful. If you already have that experience, your chances of success are much higher—regardless of age.
The Right Team
If being young is truly an advantage in a certain field (i.e., if your target demographics skew younger), you can always hire a team to compensate for your own qualities. The right team is an important factor in your success, and you’ll have complete control over who you hire.
Tech Trends
There’s nothing inherently more valuable about being a young person in tech. These are just people who happen to be better plugged in to the latest trends. They have more time to experiment with new technologies, and malleable minds that can wrap themselves around new ideas. You can emulate this by simply spending more time experimenting with new tech, and keeping a more open mind about the possibilities.
Is It Too Late?
So is it too late for you to become an entrepreneur? Certainly not. You can become an entrepreneur, and a successful one at that, at any age. In fact, you might even see an advantage because of your extra experience.
