How to Launch a Startup Tech Company in Six Months
With the right plan, it’s possible to get running in six months or less.
Most new entrepreneurs I speak to are excited about the prospect of running their own business. So excited, in fact, they wish they had the business up and running yesterday. Unfortunately, as you might imagine, rushing into a business before your ready is a sure recipe for disaster. But with the proper planning in place, you can take your business from idea to reality in six months or less.
Month 1
Your first month should be dedicated to creating your business plan, and doing all the research necessary to determine the feasibility of your core idea. Hopefully, you already have an idea to serve as a starting point—but be prepared for it to evolve. Write a first draft of your business plan in the first couple of weeks, and spend the rest of your time talking to other business owners and mentors about what you can improve. By the end of the month, you’ll have a solid business plan in place.
Months 2-3
The next couple months should be spent raising the money necessary to get your business off the ground, and/or establishing some of the initial infrastructure for your business. For example, you might start selling some of your assets, or making the rounds to angel investors and venture capitalists. You might also start purchasing domain names, scouting potential office spaces, and doing some of this other preliminary work, so you can hit the ground running when the money comes in.
Months 4-6
Assuming you were able to finance the start of your business, the next few months should focus on developing a minimum viable product. The goal here is to start generating revenue as soon as possible, and that usually requires a full team of people, and a series of goals meant to get you to your first real sale.
