Earning Traffic for Startup Tech Companies: Now, Later, and Eventually

If you want to earn traffic for your startup tech company, you need to think in three dimensions.

If you’ve just launched a business, you’re probably desperate to get more traffic to your site—and you can, quite easily, if you have the money to pay for it. On the other hand, you could invest in strategies meant to bring more traffic to you in the long-term; they’re cheaper, but they won’t pay off for months. So what should you do?

The trick is to balance the fast-acting, immediate, costly strategies with longer-term, inexpensive, exponentially growing ones, getting traffic now, later, and eventually.


Your best bet to start is generating paid traffic, utilizing pay-per-click ads through Google, Facebook, or a similar platform of your choice. Since you’ll only be paying for the traffic you actually receive, you’re guaranteed some measure of new traffic (based on your budget). This won’t net you a high ROI in the long term, but it is an effective way to get instant traffic to your site—even when you have nothing else in place.


After your PPC strategy is in place, you’ll want to focus on generating recurring traffic (and building an audience that will spread word about your brand). The best way to do that is with a content marketing strategy, including a network of social platforms you can use to recruit and retain an audience. Start writing and publishing articles your visitors will want to read, and syndicate them across social media.


Your best long-term way to build traffic is through search engine optimization (SEO) and audience building (based on your existing foundation). SEO usually takes several months to start earning traffic, but since it’s a strategy capable of exponential growth, it’s definitely worth the investment.
